Lost

Now is my time of feeling lost. All the second year guys (I'm among them) are now fighting against our tesinas - master thesis. And I become more nervous each time.

This is a new experience, the research time. Up to now, I had solved tons of exercises, read a lot of papers, studied many well-known results... But I was running through an objective. I knew that there were some kind of logic under the things, although I could not see it. I only had to make some efforts to understand the problems.

Now I do not know if there are answers to the questions I work with. And I try to solve problems, but I don't know if there exist solutions. And it is being really hard, because I don't know where I should search, who I should ask. And usually, when I think I see light, it was only a false alarm. I'm now suffering at QED, really. And the only thing I know is that I must keep trying to obtain things, that I'm not sure, they exist.

We have just finished the first three-hour session of the mini-course offered by Jean-Michel Grandmont. He is great, I understood a lot of things, but still too little.
Grandmont used quite frequently the saying, that "that is for kindergarten". I think my economics education went already wrong very early: I did not go to the right kindergarten.

We have finished our exams, and at the same time the course-part of the PhD. Now comes the real research part.
I am glad that I reached that stage, but at the same time I feel now empty, I am in low spirits. I think it was worth doing everything up to this point, but I am not sure about the future. I know that very-very probably I will finish it, because I am not of the kind of people who gives up easily, but sometimes you just get fed up with it.
I know that every people in every job, every country etc. has his/her downs in the life that is why I do not want to overdramatise the situation.
As I began PhD, it looked a sort of adventure, but now I consider it a very serious and important thing, which determines my life with respect to future job, to postponing such important things in life like marriage etc, and that makes me a bit tense.
I have the impression that my mates have the same kind of thoughts these days, let´s see if they comment on it.

I finish yammering around and go back to work.

Thus, Phd rules, but it is not a bed of roses.

We have had today the exam of General Equilibrium. It was OK apart from the fact that I expected something more theoretical, and it was just exercises and some proofs. It was no use to try to read the papers by Grandmont etc., although reading such things besides being sadomasochistich is interesting in itself. And still I think that Subir is very brilliant, but if he gives bad grades, then I will think that he is a bit malevolent genius ;-)

I have a question. If this blog is read only by Alfonso, Sara, Berti and me. Why we write in English? I suppose that it is because, as Fernando says, English is the lingua franca. I hope this help me to improve my English.
Speaking of all a little, What about Advanced Time Series exam?. I am really shitted, because I saw the Gustavo’s exam and Pérez-Quirós asked theory.

Pérez Quirós Program 3-1 loads a data set called regresores.txt,The program does not work, we don´t have it in the cd. Exportkalmantot.txt works instead. that's all. bye
